English for Islamic Civilisation History

Description

This coursebook is designed to support the learning of English in the context of Islamic Civilisation History through an integrated approach that combines language development, historical understanding, source literacy, and Islamic values. Organised into 14 thematic units, it guides students from the beginnings of Islam and the first revelation, through the development of the caliphates, the Umayyad and Abbasid dynasties, the growth of knowledge and culture, and into modern issues, Islamic education, architecture, and the contributions of Islamic civilisation to the wider world.

Each unit develops students’ competencies in listening, speaking, reading and vocabulary, grammar in context, writing, and integrated assessment. The learning activities are designed not only to improve academic English proficiency but also to strengthen students’ ability to analyse historical information, distinguish evidence from interpretation, evaluate sources critically, and communicate ideas accurately and responsibly in both spoken and written English.

The book also integrates Islamic values such as amānah, justice, responsibility, adab, verification, respect for knowledge, and beneficial learning as ethical principles that guide academic practice. Through sourcebased tasks, reflective activities, and contextualised language practice, students are encouraged to develop a balanced, evidence-based, and intellectually responsible understanding of Islamic civilisation, including the production, transmission, adaptation, and reception of knowledge across cultures and historical periods.
